You should really turn off your phone’s wifi when you do not use it

As you know every way is good for marketing companies to track you and learn about your habits, what you like, what you eat, where you shop and how much you spend. So far they were doing that using the keywords you were using to browse the web, the sites you were visiting or your credit card behavior. But thanks to Euclid Analytics, there is now a way to track you within stores using the wifi hotspots and your phone (but only if the wifi is on), here is how. As you probably already know, every network card in the world has a unique ID, the Media Access Control address (MAC address) and so n... Read More

Review: Microsoft Surface

Microsoft Surface is out fr a few months now. It is the first incursion from Microsoft in the PC hardware world and I have to admit I was expecting a lot for this product on both, the hardware and the software. Let's start by talking about the hardware. The concept envisioned by Microsoft is quite simple and very appealing: one device that can be your tablet and your laptop, all in one. I have to admit, I love the idea even if this concept could/should have been pushed one step forward to also become a desktop once docked (hopefully Dell, HP, Asus or another manufacturer will come with such... Review: Ad Blockers

Advertisements on every platform are the main source of revenue for developers, and if you have unlimited data, maybe you should just stop ready this article. The problem is, my data plan is NOT unlimited and I don't really understand why I should pay to be serve with unwanted content. The reason I prefer to pay for a service like Nexflix or Hulu to watch TV instead of paying TimeWarner or Optimum or any oter TV company is simply that is I pay for a service, I do want to have straight access to the content and not waste my time waiting for a TV show while advertisements are trying to sell m... Android, Windows Phone or IOs

Being an IT professional but also i must admit, a geek, I am always asked the same question when comes the time for them to buy a phone or a tablet, what should I buy? Android? iPhone? Anything else? Unfortunately my answer is always the same, it depends!! Let's be clear, I personally prefer Android for reasons that I will try to explain but my personal preferences do not have to fit all and it does not. Would you ask anybody around you what shoes you should buy? or what coat? I don't. For mobile devices it is the same and nearly the same questions you have to ask yourself: How much ... Read More

Nexus 7, Is it worth it?

The last two days, it all as been about Google and their annual event the Google I/O 2012. They presented the new iteration of Android, Jelly Bean or Android 4.1 bringing it share of amelioration. Everything is supposed to feel a lot smoother and fluid. Of course to support this new version of Android, Google had to have a device ready for that and came the Nexus 7: a 7" tablet with a Tegra3 processor and a 1280x800 IPS. The specifications are quite nice and reminds me a lot of the MediaPad I currently use as my daily driver: Screen 7” 1280x800 HD display (216 ppi) Back-lit IPS d... Read More

You said Retina display on a laptop???

Yesterday was Apple big show and they were presenting their new products, and how the iPhone could also face what Steve Jobs was criticizing so much about android: fragmentation! But I digress here and let's get back on the topic. One of the biggest announcement done was the new MacBook Pro with the Retina display, a 15" monitor at a resolution of 2880x1800... Almost everybody was amazed by such high resolution and again all fan-boys could not stop saying how amazing and beautiful it is. But please, please, think! Think different and use some common sense. I personally own a 30" display,... Read More

[Tool] APN Database

Dear Gals and Guys, After developing some custom roms and flashing so many phones for so many providers something hit me, there is no database of all settings for all operators in the world. Review: Huawei Mediapad / T-Mobile Springboard

As you may know, I love 7 inch tablets, they are for me the perfect size between mobility and utility. Mobility, the 7" can fit in a pant pocket, not very classy but it fits, also it holds in the hand and utility because, the form factor is ideal to simulated a book or  notepad, it also perfectly fits in a car to be used as a GPS or a multimedia station. Now let's talk about this Huawei Mediapad, also known in the USA as the T-Mobile Springboard. The first impressions are very positive, the build quality is surprisingly good. The aluminum body gives the device a excellent look and feel. Ju... Read More

Oups, ZTE seems to have forgotten something, a backdoor…

According to XDA developers, it would seem that ZTE would have forgotten a back door in the different Android devices available on the market. According to the developers who discovered the issues, it seems any apps that would know how to request access (legitimate or not) would be granted with root permissions. It seems this is a forgotten engineering tool and it should have been removed in the production rom but still be aware and careful when you install any new app. Please, read the statement from shabbypenguin: problem is as you can see from the pastebin all it requires is just a sim... Car Chargers: a long way before standardization

As you may know (because you read this blog), I am the owner of several tablets, my daily driver is the HTC Flyer. Of course I use it to browse the internet, read my news, access my emails and watch some movies but from time to time I use it for one a the main reason why I did not buy a Kindle Fire or a Nook Tablet: the GPS! So here I go driving, GPS on my tablet and plugged to my car charger when the tablet is cordial enough to let me know that the charger does not provide enough power to recharge the tablet while I am driving. And indeed when I arrive at destination I realize my tablet lo... Read More
