Android, my MUST-HAVE List

Everywhere around the Internet, you’ll be able to find the best apps ad widgets available for your android devices but honestly I dislike most of them.
Let’s be clear, a lot of apps presented are good and can make you life easy and make you device fancy but my objective is not really the same. I want my device to stay as light as possible (cpu, battery life, user experience…) and my privacy to be respected.
On the privacy point, the more you add apps the more you take risks to have some of your information flying onto server you don’t and will never have access to.
So now, let’s get to it and here are the apps I use on every single device I own:

  1. LBE Privacy Guard
This application is simply the number 1 app for me, it will allow you to decide by application the permission you want to authorize or not. You don’t want Google Maps to collect you position every 15 minutes, just block it. You don’t understand why “Extended Controls” collect your GPS position, your phone ID, your call logs AND needs access to the internet (I don’t!),you can now stop this from happening.
You need to be root to use this app but it is worth by itself taking the risk to root your device.
  2. Ad-Away
Once again you need to be root of your device to use this application but again, it is worth it. It will simply make all the advertisements disappear and if you know ad use Adblock Plus on Firefox, you will love this one.  All apps become ad-free, all visited pages on the web become lighter, it helps you to save a lot of bandwidth especially when you are using a Broadband data plan.
  3. LauncherPro
If you are familiar with Android, this launcher is not to be presented anymore. It is fast, has great widget (paid version) allow you a bunch of very useful customization and gives your device a new life.
  4. Pulse
Simply in my opinion the best RSS reader, I use it EVERYDAY to read my news and I love the way it presents the information and also allows you to share it.

Here are my top 4 apps, feel free to comment and leave me links or suggestions.
